The study, which consisted of 500 participants, measured whether sleep, stress, depression, television viewing and computer screen time were correlated with weight loss.
The research team found that sleep and stress levels were good predictors of weight loss. In fact, although diet and exercise are the usual prescription for loosing weight, high stress and too little sleep (or too much of it) can hinder weight loss even when people are on a diet.
The study shoes that people are more likely to lose weight when not impeded by sleep deprivation, stress or depression, said study author Dr. Charles Elder.
